About Us
People who have never visited or tried to find old rural
cemeteries have little concept of the conditions facing a
dedicated "cemetery hunter". If you join the SCCC, you will
meet more than one who has braved thick brush, trying
climbs, backbreaking clearing and lifting, and puzzling
efforts to make sense of eroded, misspelled information
chiseled into stone up to 200 years old and perhaps written
in OLD German!! We come from all walks of life, our
membership has a couple historians, an archaeologist, and
some that are just plain old concerned citizens.
But
we all have a common thread between us. We are dedicated to
honoring, recording, restoring and preserving all cemeteries
and burial grounds throughout the county of Stafford.
The public is invited to
attend our monthly meetings, held on the third Thursday of
every month, at 10:00 A.M. in the Ground Floor Conference
Room, County Administrative Building.

Four
of our members have won the Stafford County Historic
Commission’s Historic Preservation Award for the past 4
years in a row for their efforts in cemetery preservation.
